Our offices in Brazil
The UK and Brazil have had strong diplomatic relations since 1808, when the British Royal Navy escorted the Portuguese Royal Court to Brazil. Since then, the diplomatic and commercial relations between the two countries have become strong and continue to strengthen today.
Today, the British diplomatic mission in Brazil is structured as follows:
- British Embassy in Brasilia - the mission's main post, responsible for co-ordinating all aspects of the bilateral relationship and activities in the country. Beyond the political role, it offers consular and commercial services, as well as co-operation projects in strategic areas.
- British Consulate General Rio de Janeiro – the main office for consular services in the country (passports and visa), and responsible for the co-ordination of the consular network. It also has a commercial section which promotes the flow of business and investment between the two countries.
- British Consulate General Sao Paulo – takes primary responsibility for British commercial interests in Brazil. The British Consul General in São Paulo is the Director for Trade and Investment in Brazil. It also offers consular and general services.
- Consular Network – a network of honorary consulates and commercial offices throughout the country which provides regional support for the British nationals needing help, as well as promoting commercial opportunities for Brazilian and British businesses.
To provide our visa application services, the UK Border Agency and the British Embassy work with a commercial partner – World Bridge – which runs the Visa Application Centres (VAC). Staff at the VAC can accept applications and forward them to the UK Border Agency for consideration.
